John J. Lancaster, LL.M.
John Lancaster grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida and earned a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Florida. Not knowing what he wanted to do after college, his father and brother encouraged him to attend law school. In law school, John enjoyed taking tax law classes. His tax professor recommended that he consider attending master of laws program in taxation. John applied and got accepted into the University of Florida Graduate Tax Law program where he earned an LL.M. in Taxation. Shortly after graduation, John went to work for District Counsel, Internal Revenue Service in Nashville, Tennessee.
During his time at District Counsel, IRS, he represented the IRS before the U.S. Tax Court and Bankruptcy Court. He also provided legal advice to revenue agents and officers in their examination and collection of income, estate and gift taxes.
After four and half years with District Counsel, IRS, John left the IRS to join Clark, Campbell, Lancaster and Munson, P.A. in 1998. John now represents individuals, corporations, and estates before the IRS in tax related matters. John also provides income, estate and gift tax planning, and works on mergers and acquisitions of businesses. In 2003, John became Board Certified in Tax Law with the Florida Bar.
Since John joined Clark Campbell, he has been active in the Lakeland Community. He has served as President of the Lakeland North Rotary, Director of the Lakeland Community Foundation (GiveWell) and Polk State College and General Counsel for the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce. He has also been a member of his church parish council, Knights of Columbus, Big Brother, Guardian Ad Litem, and coached youth soccer. When John and his family moved to Lakeland, they came to Lakeland with the idea that they will live here for 2 years and then move back to St. Petersburg to be closer to their respective families. To their surprise, John and his family liked Lakeland and the family atmosphere. They found Lakeland to be a great place to raise a family.
When not at work, John enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons and traveling the world with them. He further enjoys sitting in a tree stand hunting for deer or calling in an Osceola Turkey. Early mornings and on the weekends, he takes the opportunity to go for a run or some other form of exercise. On Saturdays and Sundays during the fall, John cheers on the Gators and the Buccaneers (even during their down seasons). If John’s wife has difficulty sleeping, she asks him: “Please tell me something interesting in the tax code.”
